Mental Health

The hardest bit about mental health is usually the first conversation. Walking in. Saying it out loud. Once you're in the room, we'll listen, take time to understand what's going on, and help you figure out what comes next. That might be a Mental Health Care Plan with subsidised psychology sessions, ongoing visits with us, or a referral to someone who specialises in the kind of help you need.

Your doctor will arrange the appropriate referral and provide you with the necessary documentation. Some allied health services may attract a Medicare rebate when referred under a care plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Mental Health Care Plan?

It's a treatment plan your GP puts together that gives you access to sessions with a psychologist subsidised by Medicare. You get up to 10 sessions per calendar year. The plan is reviewed and renewed by the GP.

How do I get started with mental health support here?

Just book a standard or long appointment with one of our GPs. Mention it's for mental health when you book so we can put aside the right amount of time. The doctor will work through what's going on and recommend what makes sense from there.

How many psychology sessions does Medicare cover?

Up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year with a Mental Health Care Plan from a GP. The Medicare rebate covers most of the cost; the psychologist may charge a gap fee.

Can I see a GP about anxiety without a referral?

Yes. No referral needed. Just book directly with us and you can talk it through with a GP.

What if I'm in a mental health crisis?

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 000. For 24/7 crisis support, Lifeline is on 13 11 14 and Beyond Blue is on 1300 22 4636. You can also call us during practice hours and we'll see what we can do.
